Presidential Elections

It’s been a looooooooooooooooooong time sometimes I even forget I have another blog.

hi again guys I know I made some promises that I should keep (woooow last time I wrote anything was 21st of august).

Well the main event here in Yemen is the presidential elections and every body is “kind of” excited, but most of the people “knows” already that the current president is going to win again.

Democracy is still new to Yemen so people are not fully aware yet, I tried to ask a couple of them why would you pick “this guy” and no “that guy” the answers were kinda silly and I realized that people will only pick a person because it’s the only person they ever known, they don’t know what’s his program what his plan nothing.

Once again let me remind you, not all people here are educated and about 40% of the population can’t read and write.

Democracy needs awareness and people over here are still not fully aware of what is going on, plus some tribes go with what the “head of the tribe” (Sheekh in Arabic) say wither its right or wrong, so the tribe also plays a major part in Yemen.

The other candidate for the presidential election is “Fisal Bin Shamlan” , hmmm not a bad guy but he is kind of OLD (76) or something like that, he have a clean history (no corruption stories or anything like that), but the people here don’t know him that much and his speeches are “full-of-empty-words” in one of his speeches he was talking about the law and how he would change the law ..etc…and people in that exact area wanted more school, hospitals, POWER … c’mon man.

The election starts after 2 days.

if you ask me who am I going to vote for?

WELL……………………………………I’M NOT VOTING!!!

Why? Because I know who is going to win so I don’t need to waste a good day over something that I know the outcome of.

Salam (means piece)…

That is weird ... I haven't heard a thing about elections in Yemen!! What don't they report that? Our news-stations should get a kick in the b*** for that!
You really don't vote? Well ..if the outcome is anyway known - it's no real election anyway anymore!

Thanks so much for sharing Thamood!! :)

well people over here know only one presedent and he is very known (he roled yemen for 28 years)the other candidate isn't known at all (although he might be very good) but the people over here say " better pick the devil we know than any angel we don't know", plus we can't expect to change over night it's only the second presidential elections so it's a start so people can practice democracy

I understand how you feel. Sometimes its kind of like choosing "the least worst" during an election. But I think that if you had a certain candidate in mind that you believed would be good for your country, it couldn't have hurt to just show some suport.

Its like here in America; we all KNEW Bush would win, but that didnt stop people from showing their support for other candidates they believed in.

Then again, if there was no one you really liked, staying home would be much better =P

Liked reading your blog =) very nice to hear about whats going on "back home"
