One of the main problems facing us today as 3rd world countries people is the raising of prices which is a hard thing to control by the governments add to that low incomes.

Most of the us earn like a 1000$/Month at MOST and the prices are crazy, a week ago the milk prices got high in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia and people complained a lot and the government talked to the companies but nothing happened and it’s not the milk prices only, important everyday life products rice, milk, cheese, oil…you name it!! And the funny thing Saudi Arabia is considered one of the BEST case scenarios.

Countries like Yemen where the average individual income is 500$/month have even more higher prices.

Gaza is with no power now!! Because the Israelis cut the fuel and yesterday there was no more fuel to power the generators so starting from yesterday Gaza have no power at all!! The sad thing is our so called Arabic governments didn’t not do anything not even help the Palestinians with fuel (and we are the most producing nation of oil)!!! And we as people can’t do anything since our governments are supported by the US government it’s ok for them to dictate us!! God HELP!!

Often People that Arab Muslims dint have a sense of humor or Arabs don’t know anything about video games.

For all of those who think that I’m sorry to disappoint you, but we do like video games and we do have comedy we’re not stiff insensitive people like the one you’ve seen on “THE KINGDOM” which pissed me off by the way and I’ve only seen the beginning of the movie where this old man force his son to watch that mad man killing people like if was an everyday activity!! And at that point I said “well I had enough of this trash”.

So back to video games, one of the popular video games here is “bomb building: Osama Edition” & “stick of jihad: sons of Allah”!!!! loooolz if you believe that then you’re very shallow, we have the same video games you have like Halo 3 (which was a big disappointment for me), assassins creed some of us have a Wii and some of us got the 3 ring of death (me I got it 3 times then I get a new gift 360 from my cousin) .

So please next time you think of young Arabs Muslim don’t think bomb and killing, think HALO3 and by the way my tag name is “thamood” if anyone wants to add me as a friend..

Like you see in the movies (which is taken from real life so it’s an endless circle) people tend to leave there countries in search for a better life.

Most of the west world tend to go to big industrial countries like the US or the UK because the chances of getting a job there is much more better than there countries.

Like that here in the Arab world we tend to leave our countries but where do we go to? Well mostly we head to gulf countries because that is where most of the work and money is focuses countries like the kingdom of Saudi Arabia the united Arab emirates are considered to be the US and UK of the Middle east and Arab world since they are wealthy and have a lot of chances to provide (but in a whole we are all still consumer 3rd world countries).

The Spanish tourists

Maybe most of you don't know about this, but in the past month a small terror act happened here in Yemen which led to the death of maybe 7 Spanish tourists, now first of all let me say that I'm sorry for the Spanish families lost I know words doesn't mean much when you lose someone you love but words is all we got right now.

For years now everything was going ok in Yemen no more tourist kidnapping and no more killing people suddenly this group of extremist appeared out of no where, and yet they have the nerve to say "WE ARE MUSLIMS!!!" let me clear one thing, Islamic religion is a peaceful religion we don't kill people out of fun and I know many of you read on web sites that verses in the Holy Qu'ran ordered Muslims to kill non Muslim but that’s simply not true those verses had conditions in the past where executed now those conditions are gone.

I don't know where those people came from, but they say one of the planer for this attack was from Egypt (sure throw the blame on someone else) but still this is an act of extremist and misled people who thought they were doing the right thing.

Now I'm a big fan of conspiracy theories so sometimes I think "Oh maybe some outer force is doing this since Yemen reputation is getting better and is not considered a dangerous place anymore and someone is trying to make us look bad and make Islam look bad"

Once again so sorry for all the Spanish families lost and I just wanted to clear to you that this is not what Islam or Yemeni people are about, we are not savages and we don't hate no body.

Like I always do, I forget all about the English blog or whenever I want to write something I think like Mitch and say "what I'm writing is not good".

So what happened lately in Yemen, hmmm let me see not that much well some news paper editor who was thrown in jail coz the government accused him to planning to overthrown the government (which is not true but the way he had beef* with president in the past) but now he is out for the time being and don't worry freedom of speech fighters "He will be back….to jail".

Other than that, things have being very quite these days, nothing much happened.

I've discovered that everyone hates his job and most people don't like there current job no matter what it is, on the other side the people who are happy with what they are doing are two categories

One: the people who own there business, I have a friend who have a small computer hardware place and he is very happy with it and working very hard to improve his work (well it's his business so he really want to make it gr8)

Two: people who have the lowest pay, I surprised that those people are very happy at what they do, most of them cleaners and sweep the street for living, but still see the good side of life and smile and say "well leave in god's hands, and everything will be alright".

It's not like I don't have faith in god but look at the second type of people, we look and wonder, you have a lowest pay, don't have much money to save, bla bla bla, yet you find time to smile.

I wish I was like them.

Hamas was elected by the people because Hamas is the people, but the other countries including the US government (the leaders of the free world … or so they say) didn't want Hamas to win coz Hamas don't want to make peace with Israel and it don't even say it's a country (in case you're wondering we all say that Israelis are occupiers and they should just go away) but now the whole world is against Hamas because they fight for there cost and there right to have a free country !!!! What a controversy!! Why does the US put it self in the middle? Why interfere with everything going on in the Middle East!! Iraq, Lebanon and when it comes to Palestine the US government is the first one to support Israel? They want to force the Hamas government to recognize Israel and maybe in the end they will because they will cut the support out of the Palestinians and power and water but it's just gona make thing worse and raise the anger of all the people in the middle east and someday we might actually BLOW!!! (and it wont be a pretty sight)

It’s so hard to maintain 2 blogs at once; I have this blog and the other Arabic blog if you know Arabic (wana learn the hard way go to it).
Remember that old job that I’ve said I hated a lot, guess what? I’m back…they called me asking if I’m interested in going back to my old position so after a lot of thinking and the fact that I don’t have any source of income and I’ve been looking for a job for like 4 months I said YES!!!! So now I’m back to my old boring disk 90% of the time doing nothing except for web browsing.

So now what’s next? Well I’m still looking for a job that is more interesting than this, so for the mean time I’ll stay put.

Just got another “we’re sorry” e-mail from another company saying I didn’t get the job, now don’t worry I’m not mad or HATE life or anything, but I’m thinking maybe I can start (or at least) dreaming of starting my own business, so the first thing that came in mind is “Internet café” but then I began thinking “hmmmm there are an awful lot of internet café out there!!!” so now I’m trying to come with this idea of a place that people can hang in for “internet-books-coffee” but I can’t get a clear picture. The other idea was to start my “own-TV-show” but I’ll I need is a TV channel and writers and being famous (that’s not hard to get is it!!!) so in conclusion “are you sorry you quitted that last job?” and the answer is “Hell no I hated that job and hated myself for doing it”.

Sex in Arabia

I was watching Riz Khan TV on Al-Jazeera international the other day and they were interviewing some lady who is majoring in “sex therapy” (major is sexology) the subject or the major of the lady didn’t bother me much but I was surprised from the calls she got and the questions she was asked like

“Did you get any DEATH threats?”

“Any dirty calls”

All of the calls assumed that we (by we I mean Arabs and Muslims) are some kind of stupid and very little minded people who would kill anyone who talk about sex or even say the word SEX!!!.

Talking about sex or sex therapy is not a prohibited subject to talk about (porno is another matter) but we do talk about sex and some of us (not ME) have some problems and must seek help from “sex therapist” so please guys don’t think that all of us are murders who want to kill and bomb building just for kicks just because we are Muslims and don’t let the media fool you with the picture of people using camels and living in tents!!!

By the way the lady who was doing the interview was wearing the vale and is a good muslim and i bet a lot of people in the west would say "HUH? can they do that!!" know what its isalm before you judege it.

New prime minister

What’s new in Yemen? Well we got a new prime minister which will solve all of our problems (or so they say) the new prime minister was the former minister of electricity and they say he is a good person (who will focus on the country’s interest and not his) but hey we all heard that before every single prime minister who came didn’t do much, well except for yapping and more yapping about NOTHING because we all ready know who calls the big shots in this country and it not the prime minister!!

And a few days ago they had this “investment-in-Yemen” expo thing, which is good by the way but is the government really ready to help investors here in Yemen I really hope so because our economy is very weak and out main source is oil which will come to an end in 2011 (and if it didn’t end blame the world bank report).

about poverty

One of the questions that I was asked in that radio interview was about "poverty" in Yemen and I made it sound like it was like we are all poor "I remember saying something about people knocking always on my door".

Poverty is a big deal in Yemen, sometimes it seems like everyone is begging all the time, sometimes kids finish school and begs in the afternoon which makes me so sick sometimes, what should we do about it?

We are still a 3rd world country (or so they say) our economy is 100% oil only!! And there isn't much people can do here but beg and if you do have a job the salary won't do you anything ,the average salary is 200$) and the average flat rent is 100$!!! Should we ask for me salaries? Well we can't because we don't have that much money and our economy is getting worse.

On of the thing the government should focus on is tourism which is a very good and long investment and Yemen is very rich with history and great places to go to beaches, deserts, mountains and many more but maybe "someone" is too stupid to think of that and a lot pf people are telling me that our glorious government is doing any kind of advertisement of any kind (and a lot of people don't even know Yemen and some think it's another Chandler "the guy from friends" joke!!!!).

I don't usually update my English blog because I didn't think that people know it, but a couple of days ago I got and e-mail from someone called Adam from TheMediaLine.org to ask me to do a radio interview and I accepted and I recorded the interview on that same day ( although I think I sounded like lil bit nervous … but I really don't know I never herd myself) but I was really happy I was like "this is my 15 min of fame" (the interview was only 7 min so I still have like 8 more mins of fame) .

Ok now I'm writing this on my cousin laptop in Aden and I'm planning to publish it when I find a connection to the internet.

looking for a job!!

I've left my old job a month ago because I hated it very much…WHY?
I'm a computer science graduate and I was working as secratery!!! Yeah yeah a lot of people told me you'll regret leaving that job you wont find anything that easy and I didn't find anything YET, I went to an interview in this new mobile company and they told me I don't have any experience and that I should have a least two years of experience (I only graduated a year ago!!!)

Now I'm still looking for job... anyone!!..someone…. I'll code for food hehehehe

Conflict of interests

Although I'm majored in computer science but I found myself very attracted to politics and everything about it from the main events to small things such as conspiracy theories and I try to find some answers for what is going around this crazy world.

Politics is connected to everything these days and if we focused a little bit we'll find that we apply some politics rules in our daily life from sending gifts to someone you don't even like to the way you deal with your friends and family.

The key word here is "interests"

Why do you smile to your boss every time you see him? It's simple, it's because you don't want to have any conflict with him that may lead to losing your job (which is the worst case scenario).

Now think big, what is the main reason for the war in Iraq?

"Oil" yes that one of them, add to that that Iraq was once an alley of the states but somewhere in the middle things have changed and became one of its worst enemies.

Yes Iraq had weapons and SOME high tech weapons and going to war that time would cost a LOT more than the cost today (yes even in that time eventually the US will win) so first they used the siege weapon to weaken the government and people will become more angry at the government and they will accept any other solution and that’s maybe one of the key things that helped the US to win this war in such a short time but the aftermath was not calculated correctly.

Now everything is a mess because even when Iraqi people was ruled by Saddam some groups had there own plan and they couldn't execute any of there plans because Saddam ruled the country like an Iron fist so when the war started they welcomed the US because war would put the country in too much chaos which would be a perfect opportunity for them to execute there plans, and this leads us to cults war which is what is happening now in Iraq.

Going back to the keyword "interests", Iraq have a lot of Oil and if Saddam was left to rule it would cause much troubles in the future so why waste time? And if a US friendly government ruled Iraq it would be much easier to get oil and save a lot of money, in addition to that Saddam was a threat to Israel and many other allies of the US in the Middle East if the problem wasn't solved immediately the consequences might be HUGE and might lead to a great war in the middle east which is the one of the main and maybe important suppliers of Oil in the world.

So it's not "democracy" or "enemies of freedom" or whatever excuses people are talking about in the media it's simply a conflict of interests.

So hey don't ask yourself why maybe in the coming 10 or 20 years the US will declare Egypt or even the UK as an enemy because in the end it's simply a conflict of interests and rules are made to be broken and if you're in the position of power no one will ask you WHY or HOW. I only took Iraq as in example because everyone has heard about it.

Sorry for the delay I was stuck in traffic loolz kinda sorry excuse for not updating the blog.

Welcome everybody once again to my blog Arabia one.

What have I done in those two months? Well there was the holy month of Ramadan and fasting and reading the Holy Qur’an then it was Eid (something like Christmas for Christian) I went to Al-Mukallah for Christmas and toke a loooot of pics but sadly I didn’t find the time to upload them and they are kinda big and will take a while to upload and I toke them all with my nokia N70.

On our way to Al-Mukallah we stopped at my father and father father etc home town where we all origin from it’s called Na’Hola (yeah I know it’s hard to spell) so let me talk about it for a lil bit.

Na’Hola is a village, there I’m done.

Hehe well it’s a simple village with house made mainly of mud and some kinda trees, and it’s not Africa it’s like real building but made from mud because it’s made that way so they can be cool from the inside because Hadramoot (the state we are from or whatever you want to call it) is mainly hot.

after spending a day in the simple country away from all the noises of the city and chaotic life it’s back on the road again to continue the trip to Al-Mukallah and after 6 hours of driving and nothing much to see on the road we arrived to Al-Mukallah.

It’s been more than 5 years since the last time I visited Al-Mukallah and they’ve improved the city streets and building are growing every where and the city now have an inlet that they recently re-opened because it’s was closed years ago for cleaning and stuff and it even made the city look more beautiful.

One day we went to a place called Al-Khirba, which is a big grove or garden that the Old Sultan of Hadramoot used to go to, you’ll even see the old Sultan house there (sadly I didn’t take pictures of that).

But the end of the week we headed back to Sana’a and also on the way back we stopped in my dad home town for the night woke up the next day and …bla bla bla..yada yada….we’re back in Sana’a yebeee.

Simple Islam Q&A (thamoody version)

This is the tip of the ice berg for me, so many people think of Islam as a violent and bloody religion and every single time they talk about Islam all that comes in people heads are the WTC towers and killing bombs and so on.

For those who only read about Islam from news sites and news papers I ask you to go and get some real books about Islam.

A couple of minutes ago I was reading an article on digg.com about some Danish people drawing more cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed (May Peace Be Upon him) they say he is not a prophet and his is a killer, and so and so.

Just to let you all know I’m not from Al-Qeda or any extremist group I’m just a normal 23 guy who works as an administrator in a small company and would like to correct some of the wrong ideas about Islam.

Now let me talk about the Quran; some people take verses from the Quran that talk about war and think that Muslims like WAR.

The truth is we only go to war if people attacked us 1st (so it’s the basic nature of resistance) we don’t set around and say “Hey I’m bored let’s go to war” it’s just a stupid thing to think that we like to kill.

“Do you cut people head off if they don’t convert to Islam?”

Ahhhh.. NO why would we??

In the Quran there is a verse that talked about NOT to force people into Islam they if they want to convert they are free, if they don’t then it’s there choice.

“Why do you get mad when people make fun or “draw cartoons” of your Prophet?”

Because of respect, if you respect some one how can you make fun of? In fact it’s not only the Prophet Mohammed that we don’t like to make fun of, we Respect Jesus and Moses and Abraham and Suleiman every prophet that was sent from god (Allah) we respect and we don’t like to make fun of.

If you make fun of someone then you really don’t respect them.

“What is Allah?”

Allah is god; but the word Allah is the Arabic word for God but some Muslims like to use the Arabic word but the truth is:

Allah = God
God = Allah

Simple math :)

“Is there freedom of speech in Islam?”

Yes there is, Islam in its nature is open to any argument we like to hear other people point of view and talk, but there is some extremist groups that think they are the only people who are right (some times they even want to kill Muslims who don’t agree with them) and others opinion doesn’t matter. (But then again there are extremist groups everywhere in this world).

Those extremist are the ones making Islam and any other religion they represent look bad.

“What’s with the Sona and Shia?”

To make it simple it’s like the protestants and orthodox they all Christians but with small differences.

Same goes for the Sona and Shia they both Muslims but with small differences (but then again you have to be a Muslim to know all about that)

Before the war of Iraq Sona and Shia terms was so much popular now they are using it to start an internal war between the two groups. (But I’m here to talk about Islam not the war of Iraq and the aftermath of it)

“Do Muslims hate Jews or Christians?”

No, we only hate Israel and what they are doing to the Palestinis (and it’s a loooong subject).

“But Israel belongs to the Israelis?”

And America belongs to the Indians.

“What about women rights?”

Yes we have women rights but why do you mix between women rights and NAKED women, the west think that just because Muslim women don’t wear bikini and micro jeep and expose there beauty to all people then they have no rights.

I think women rights is about educating women and not make them take there cloth off! And thank god we have many great Muslim women who are doctors, engineers, poets etc etc.

“Then why do you hide your women? (It’s silly)”

A woman is a valuable thing, and her beauty is also valuable, now if you had a treasure would you show it to everyone and anyone? Eventually some one would like to HAVE SOME.

Women can wear what they want in front of each other or husband or brothers sisters father uncles etc etc and so on, but they are not allowed to expose there beauty to strangers.

Islam wants women to be pure, but now days some people just want to make women some kind of a product like a painting or something which is wrong a women is so much more, it’s not a sexual object.

“I hear you guys still ride on camels?”

Yes I’m using my Camel everyday to go to my work, in fact I don’t have a computer I write on stone and eat sand and my house is made of wood and mud..

Come on this is the 21st centaury we only have camels and horses in traditional festivals.

Well I guess this is it, although I didn’t write everything about Islam but I talked about some major points and some wrong ideas that comes from the west, ~~If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me and I’ll try my best to answer you.~~

It’s been a looooooooooooooooooong time sometimes I even forget I have another blog.

hi again guys I know I made some promises that I should keep (woooow last time I wrote anything was 21st of august).

Well the main event here in Yemen is the presidential elections and every body is “kind of” excited, but most of the people “knows” already that the current president is going to win again.

Democracy is still new to Yemen so people are not fully aware yet, I tried to ask a couple of them why would you pick “this guy” and no “that guy” the answers were kinda silly and I realized that people will only pick a person because it’s the only person they ever known, they don’t know what’s his program what his plan nothing.

Once again let me remind you, not all people here are educated and about 40% of the population can’t read and write.

Democracy needs awareness and people over here are still not fully aware of what is going on, plus some tribes go with what the “head of the tribe” (Sheekh in Arabic) say wither its right or wrong, so the tribe also plays a major part in Yemen.

The other candidate for the presidential election is “Fisal Bin Shamlan” , hmmm not a bad guy but he is kind of OLD (76) or something like that, he have a clean history (no corruption stories or anything like that), but the people here don’t know him that much and his speeches are “full-of-empty-words” in one of his speeches he was talking about the law and how he would change the law ..etc…and people in that exact area wanted more school, hospitals, POWER … c’mon man.

The election starts after 2 days.

Chapter 6: south marriages.

We’re back, I’ve been kind of busy these days I forgot all about the blog.

Chapter 6: south marriages.

The south part of Yemen isn’t that different from the north when people want to get married to go ask the father of the girl then the father asks his daughter if she agrees or not.

So let’s assume that she said “what heck, I’ll do it”, sometimes you can do it in the house where you can bring a judge and he can marry you there which most people do these days in the north and south parts of Yemen.

The second way which I only saw people in Hadramoot do is that the men go to the mosque and through the microphones all people can know that “Husband” married “Wife”.

Let me try to explain what they do in some details.

After they have agreed on the money and stuff and who buys what? And who get that? And sign all the papers and stuff in the presence of a judge the two men hold hands (like shaking hands) and they say something like this:

Father: “I 'name-of-the-father' marry you my beloved daughter 'name-of-the-daughter' 'something-something-something'”... (Well I don’t memorize the whole thing).

Soon-to-be-Husband: “I 'name-of-the-man' take your beloved daughter 'name-of-the-soon-to-be-wife' to be my wife 'something-something-something'”.

And then the judge announce them son in law and anyone there congratulates the men and shake hand and so on.

Well after looking at it, it looks the same anywhere in the world, but the difference here is that the girl stays in the house and after the marriage is done, the papers and the witnesses signed then she can go with her husband.

Of course there are some religion details I didn’t talk about here because I wanted to give you the whole picture.

Maybe I’ll talk about it some other time.

About the conversation:
The only difference is that some do it in the house and some do it in the mosques, but the conversation between the two is the same anywhere in any place in the Arab world with minor differences.

It’s been a while since I ever wrote anything (I think I used this phrase too much).

Last chapter (or micro-chapter) we talked about marriage, well to day I’m not in the mood to talk about marriage today…LETS TALK POLOTICS.

It’s been a month now and Israel didn’t stop its crimes yet and the US seem like they still don’t care that much and the Kingdoms and Republics governments in our middle east is still not doing anything.

MR.BUSH I know you just want to win one small victory so you can tell your people “Look we are fighting terrorism” and I’ve heard the T word being used too much.

It’s kind of a chaos theory, “Give people fear and they will give you anything even there life’s”, that’s what’s happening all around the world, open the news what will you see? Killing and killing and bombers and guys dressed in black saying “WE WILL KILL YOU”.

The media is just used to serve the politicians interest.

“WE WANT OIL”
“WHERE IS THE OIL”
“IN THE MIDDLE EAST”
“LET’S CONTROL THEM BASTERDS”
“OK HERE IS THE PLAN...WE ARE GOOD AND THEY ARE EVIL…LETS SAVE THE WORLD”

And they just keep calling this “the well of god”…”fighting terrorist”.

Everyday in Iraq more than 10 people dies what have you done Mr. BUSH and you say Sadam was evil…he didn’t kill all those people, YOU DID thanks to you and the WMD big LIE.

How many soldiers died in this so called war (from both sides)? And how many civilians died? Do the math…it aint worth it.

Open the TV watch the news, Democracy is a big fat lie, he only democracy is the government’s and if you cross certain lines then your dead or jailed my friend look at Guantanamo where is the trials? And they say it’s the land of the free.

Lebanon is still under fire

What is going on?
What is wrong?

Civilians are dying in Lebanon and the UN and the whole world are not doing anything because it’s a war against terrorism?!

It’s a war against Country, in fact two countries the 1st one is Palestine and the 2nd one is Lebanon.

I’ve already talked about the Palestine thing, so let me talk about the Lebanon so called war against terrorism.

The Israelis goals are not to only to destroy Hezzballah but Israel wants to destroy the whole Lebanese infrastructure.

The 1st strike was to the airport (bye bye tourism), No more tourist will come, every single flight to Lebanon was canceled and the experts say that everyday this war coast Lebanon more the 100 million dollars!!!

Maybe most of the Lebanese economy is base on tourism and Lebanon tourism is dead now and I don’t think it will restore not even after 3 or 4 years.

Now some may say it’s all Hezzballah fault, yes it’s might be, but come on all this for two soldiers? More than 600 civilians were killed and they say it’s for the two soldiers? If Israel agreed to trade hostages then non of this would’ve happened (and don’t tell me nothing it’s Israel who refuses to release the Lebanese hostages so Hezzballah did what they had to do it might not sound right but it’s the only thing that was left to do).

And the funniest thing that the US government is helping Israel with missiles and bombs so they can keep the PEACE in the area?!! And Israel is having there kids signing on missiles to Lebanon (I don’t know who is the terrorist?? If Arabs do that then we are killers but its ok when Israelis kids do it!!!! What a punch of hypocrites).

It’s no more than a plan to ruin Lebanon and spread terror in order to make the NEW middle east…

Chapter 5:South

South part of Yemen includes the famous city Aden which was a British colony. The South part of Yemen is bigger than the north part.

Maybe most famous people of the south are Hadrami People, Hadramies are famous for spreading Islam to countries like Indonesia and Malaysia and there a lot of Hadrami people still living there.

Traditions in the south differ from in the north but it’s not a big difference.

Let’s talk about what people wear.

The climate in the north is kind of a continental climate where as in the south most of the time it’s hot so people like to wear what we call “Foota” or “Soba’eiah” and to make the picture close to you, a Foota is like what the people of Scotland wear (that thing like a skirt what’s its name), and as for the top part they can wear a t-shirt or what ever that goes with it.

Almost no one wears a dagger in the south, but they have dagger for some occasions and not everyone have a dagger people who were sultans in the past or were connected to sultans or they were royals have daggers and people from known tribes have daggers.

Notice that I’ve said “have” not “wear” they wear it in some occasions, but most of the time they don’t.

Next time we are going to talk about some people get married in Hadramoot since it’s the biggest part of south, also it’s the biggest part of Yemen.

Chapter 4: Tribe pride (North & South)

Yemeni society is a very conservative society it’s the mix of two (Muslim-Arabic) traditions.
All Yemeni people are Muslims and we have some Yemeni Jews here and there (and we don’t hurt them ok…!).

Every part of Yemen have there own traditions and style of life and I’ll try to talk about them (but hey I’m not an expert I’m just trying to give you more info about my country).

North part of Yemen traditions differ from south part, in the north the tribe is main thing and loyalty to the tribe is the most important thing, although most people don’t care much about that anymore but they consider it an important tradition and some tribes are famous than other so as you can see it’s all a matter of pride and who is famous and so on.

Famous tribes of the north are like (Hashid, Bakeel….there a lot actually but those two are the most famous).

But there are some cities of the north like (Taiz , Ib ) who don’t care much about the tribe and where are you from.

In the south in cities like (Aden, Al-Mukalla) people forgot all about tribes pride and all stuff related to that 100 years ago, they do know where they are from and every body sticks to his/her roots but it’s not a big deal anymore.

Ok the END, yes I know this in not enough I promise I’ll write more & more.

Chapter III: let's get married

In chapter II I talked about the traditional dress code in the NORTH part of yemen which by the way apply to about 75% of the north some parts of the norht don't wear a dagger.

maybe most of you thought that I would write more about what's the dress code in the south but I'll leave that for another day.

Today I'm going to talk about how people get married, or to be exact how to propose.

Let's get it started:

Most of the world have the (European –American) way to propose to a woman, well you can do that here but you still have to do it the right way(if want to do something do it right).

What I'm going to speak about here maybe apply to 80% of the Arab world in general with maybe a little difference from one country to another.

So if you loved some girl and she loved you and you want to get married there are some steps you must do first.

First step: you can propose to the girl family directly or you can try the second approach which means that you have to send someone who knows the girl family (a friend of the family and it would be better if he/she was a good friend of the family) and tell them that you want to propose for there daughter and see what they have to say.

Second step: if you proposed directly or they agreed to meet you after step one – part two then you and the girl father or who is considered her legal guardian will schedule a day when you come with some of your family members and set with him and some of his family members (that’s of course if the girl wanted to marry YOU!!) and you talk about the details of the wedding and who will pay for what and so on.

Step three: get ready for the wedding.

Step four: get married.

Step five: now you have her have a great life.

I know this was short but I'm kind of busy these days I'll try to write more stuff in the near future.

Lebanon under fire

3 days and the Israelis are hitting on Lebanon now maybe most of you heard the official story that Israel is trying to get there 2 soldiers out.

See the problem is Israel found it a chance to start its own plan to destroy Hizb-Allah (which by the way means God’s people) because Hizb-Allah is like wall between them and taking over all Lebanon.

Hizb-Allah is the one who fought against Israel when they occupied south Lebanon and drove them out of there destroying the Israeli army legend so it’s another chance to get even.

Even though the powers are not equal and the Israelis (as usual) are fighting dirty and targeting civilians and villages.

They have bombed Beirut airport and parts of Beirut so the tourism season is over for good in Lebanon and Lebanon loses 100 million dollars everyday because of that so it’s not a war against Hizb-Allah but it’s a war against the whole country and they still have the nerves to say it’s about the 2 soldiers (hey Hizb-Allah is at the south and Beirut is far far from there) and plus it’s the Israelis that still have Lebanese hostages and Hizb-Allah wanted to trade these 2 soldiers with some hostages but Israel didn’t want to ,so don’t keep telling me it’s about the 2 soldiers because it’s clearly not because if they really cared about these two soldiers why did they start this war and lost maybe a couple of millions when they could’ve surrendered some hostages from there side??? It’s all a big fat lie.

Until now maybe 110 Lebanese civilians but Hizb-Allah bombings only killed 9 while they were able to bomb a chemical factory in Hifa but they didn’t because they didn’t want a disaster and the civilians are not the enemy, but the Israeli army is still bombing civilians.

Last Saturday UN voted to stop Israel the US used the Veto to cancel the whole thing, and the US supplied Israel with Jet fuel so Israel can keep the PEACE!!!! (Yes PEEEEEEEEEEEAAACE?? Keep the peace with a missile!!!)

Welcome to chapter II of this ….. !!! It’s not a book so…well welcome to the second part of this series of articles about Yemen.

Chapter II: Dress code in Sana’a and most of the north parts of Yemen

Life in Yemen is different than maybe what most people are used to, Yemeni people are strict about there traditions and every part of Yemen has it’s own traditions and dress code and so on.

Lets talk about Sana’a for example (since I live there, but I’m originally from Hadramoot which I’ll talk about maybe in another chapter), the dress code there is the white Thob, the Ganbiah (dagger), and you can wear a jacket over them, and a scarf (in Yemen they call it Somatah).

I know most people stopped at the (dagger) thing saying “they seem so uncivilized”, so let me explain the “dagger” thing.

1st of all we don’t use it as a weapon a dagger says a lot about the person wearing it, it’s like a car so you have a Mercedes Benz people will know you are rich but if you have a Toyota People will say that you’re doing well, so a dagger is like a social thing not a weapon.

Some dagger can cost a lot they can reach about 1 million dollars!!! (And I’m not joking).

But this dress code isn’t what ALL people wear but it’s like the dress code for most people in the north part of Yemen, the south part for Yemen dress code is entirely different.

Chapter 1 : Sana'a

Ok I’m try to talk about how it’s like to live in Yemen & Sana’a (the city which I live in).

Preface (AGAIN!!! yes):

Sana’a is the capital of Yemen, and for those who don’t know much about Yemeni history Yemen was separated into two parts north and south Yemen, the north was ruled by the Imam and the south was under British control in the 26th of Sep 1964 the north became the republic of Yemen and in 30th of Nov 1967 the south gained it independence.

The north capital was Sana’a & the south Capital was Aden.

And so in 1990 the two parts became united & both formed what is know today as the republic of Yemen and Sana’a was the capital and Aden was the main sea port.

Chapter 1: welcome to my city “Sana’a”:

There is a poem that goes like “no matter how long we travel, we will go back to Sana’a”
This became like the most used poem for all Yemeni world wide, because it like the “Come back to home” song.

Sana’a is a wonderful city, in here you’ll find people from all over Yemen that came to the capital either for work or visiting or moving there, and Sana’a is known for it’s great weather (but this year it didn’t rain a lot like it used too I hate it when it doesn’t rain…oh ok back to the subject), some say Sana’a have an European like weather (although I didn’t go to Europe).

Sana’a consists of 2 main parts (from my point of view):

1- The ordinary Sana’a where it’s like modern and nothing really is out of the ordinary (at least for us).
2- Old City of Sana’a: it’s the door to the 19th or maybe 18th & 17th century in old Sana’a you’ll find everything just magical houses that are like 100 or years old and old style markets and there a market for everything, a market for silver, for antiques for traditional hand crafts, until this day each time I go to Old Sana’a I feel like I’ve took the time machine and went back time.

You can’t hate us Yemenis we are just too nice (and too NOSY if there is anything new we just gather around it), Yemeni people are the kindest people there ever was they just treat you like a friend and we really don’t care much about where you’re from or what you do as long as you are a human then you are a friend.

Now there is a lot to visit when you come here to Sana’a so let me suggest 3 places you MUST visit:
1- Old Sana’a : I don’t care if you were living on the moon you have to go to old Sana’a
2- One of the “Shibani Restaurants”: these restaurants are famous all over Yemen for there traditional YET so GOOOOOOD food and believe me you don’t want to miss this one.
3- Dar Al-Hagar: this was the summer home for the Imam it’s about a 30 min drive from Sana’a and it’s really fascinating It was built on a HUGE rock the traditional Yemeni way which is just so magical.

This was the end of “chapter I” and I don’t know how many chapters or what is the next chapter is going to be about so keep on reading, and if you have any questions just ask, I’ll try my best to answer anything.

Slow Connection

Preface (I know it’s not a book I just like the sound of it):

I was going to write about my country “Yemen” but then I thought that would be kinda lame if you want to know the “Official” info about Yemen just go to Google and type “Yemen”.

Ok let’s break things down a little bit (for the ones who don’t know any Arabic), my Name is Thamood and I’m 22 (turning 23 next august) and I’m a computer science graduate and that’s about it (what more do you want to know) and did I say I’m from YEMEN?.

Intro: my life & slow connections:

Yeah it’s 2006 and for the most of us in Yemen we are still using the dial-up connection to the internet (OMG….yeah I know), but hey it’s not bad at least you learn some things while you are waiting to download your 300KB picture (yes we wait for those kind of things), because we only have like 2 ISPs and both of them are complete idiots and don’t know what is the meaning of the word “Technology” or “DSL” (I’m wondering if they are still using windows 3.11)!!!

They do have ADSL connections but for the most of us (I mean the Yemeni people) and comparing it to the income it’s kinda expensive (plus it’s for only 120 hours a month STUPID TELECOM MINESTRY) that’s why internet cafes are so much popular than home internet here (which I hate coz people here are so NOSY they like to watch what you do all the time and there is no privacy).

I do have a dial up connection at home which I use a lot, but I really wish more ISPs could come here so they can free us from this HUUUUUGE problem, we are not fully using the internet, and we have to wait like 10 min for a flash to open or a picture to be downloaded!!!
Yes we can go to internet cafes but it not really that great too because sometimes someone might be downloading something using download managers like flash get or some program like that and the whole line would become slow!!!!! GOD please send us ISPs plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz - i used SOME a lot in this last piece lolz ;)

Well let me write a little tale.

“a young girl was setting on here small disk in school she was smiling and having fun with her small friends, she had dreams and hopes for the future, become a doctor a reporter no body knows and NO will know what she was dreaming of” WHY?

A sniper , or be exact an Israeli sniper was kinda bored that day so he LOOKED through his rifle and so this “little girl” sitting there smiling on here disk.

Stories like these happens everyday in Palestine and I mean EVERY SINGLE DAY and most of you wont hear about it, coz most of the western media is controlled by Jews who have relationships with Israel.
